Sanskrit is the principal vehicle of the
knowledge traditions and practices of Bharat. Unmatched corpus of classical
texts in every field of knowledge is preserved in Sanskrit since time
immemorial. This knowledge base is the foundation of our civilization. This is
a huge treasure. If contribution for humanity is the measure, Sanskrit might
top the world languages in total number of books and variety of branches of
knowledge.

However, after
independence, Samskrit is identified as just a ‘religious language’, among
common man and intelligentsia. In government circles, either because of
ignorance or because of ulterior motives, scientific knowledge in Sanskrit is
ignored. Broadly, we can say that Indian education system has produced two
types; (1) those who study Samskrit do not study modern sciences, (2)those who
study modern sciences do not study Samskrit seriously.
Till 19th
century, language of sciences, medicine, literature, philosophy, arts, music,
law etc., was Sanskrit. But post-independence, Samskrit has been ignored for
studying sciences specially. Technical terms common for all Indian languages have
not been generated in Samskrit for nearly 100 years now. The role of Sanskrit
as the common framework is not appreciated by the current generation of
scholars.
This disconnect between
Samskrit and scientists & creative minds of this country needs to be
bridged with new approach. Samskrit for Specific Purpose Series is an attempt
to connect adult learners from Engineers, Doctors, Scientists, Administrators,
Lawyers and every other section of society with Samskrit through studying
Samskrit texts from respective fields. For example original Samskrit texts from
Yoga, Ayurveda, Vedanta, Ganita, Natya Shastra, Sangeeta Shastra, Arthashastra
etc., will be taught to respective group. The syllabus and terminology is uniquely
tailored for each branch of knowledge. Another specialty of this series is that,
the target language is taught through the
target subject, and study of the target subject is through the target language.
